Bennelong was a Wangal man from the Eora Nation, and was taken to Sydney Cove to be a mediator between the Indigenous peoples and the settlers. He married Barangaroo, and asked Governor Philip to build him a hut to live. That place is now known as Bennelong Point, and is where the Sydney Opera House now stands.
Bennelong and also another Aborigine named Yemmerrawanie (or Imeerawanyee) travelled with Phillip to England in 1792.
